204 Michael was left in Ireland when his parents and grandparents emigrated. His parents attempted to bring him and his cousin Arthur McNally to NSW when he was 15 but that did not eventuate. When he was 20 he did arrive to live with his family, stayed on the farm at Liverpool for some years then disappeared. Maybe he returned to Ireland.

On 15 Feb 1858, Owen applied through Remittance Regulations for Owen, 20, labourer from Ederney, Co Fermanagh to immigrate to NSW.

On 16 November 1858 20 year old farm labourer, Michael Barrett arrived on “Mary Pleasants” in Sydney. Stated as RC, could neither read nor write.
