• Notes

  In June 1849 Philip Purcell, with his brother-in-law James Barrett, set sail for California. Phillip left behind a pregnant wife and an 18 month-old son. A note on second son’s baptism stated father was “at California, a tradesman”. Bridget set out to California in search of her husband, after James returned back alone. Bridget did not locate Philip and he did not return to Australia. Susan was pregnant when the couple married. Witnesses: Edward Barrett, Bridget Barrett.
