      “Three uncles in the colony, one Edward Barrett, living at Georges River.” Edward paid their passage to Australia in 1854.

      Patrick’s death certificate states his father was William “Barrett”, farmer and mother was Ann Murphy. Certificate is incomplete. (Informant daughter Catherine Lynch).

      Re Patrick’s move to Rockhampton in 1859, he could have moved there to be near relatives. Advertisements in the Rockhampton Bulletin in 1868 refer to McKenney’s furniture shop, owned by a Michael McKenney.
      A saddler, John Scanlan went to Rockhampton from Sydney in 1858-60.

      Patrick’s obituary says that he came to the area in the early 1860s and was at Fort Cooper for a short time before settling in Mackay

      Patrick and Ellen had nine children in Mackay.
